Haguenau Village

Haguenau is one of the oldest communities of Alsace. The Jews lived there almost without interruption since the Middle Ages. The first synagogue was confiscated during the expulsion of 1349. On their return, the Jews built a synagogue in a house, street of Salt. This one was rebuilt after a fire in 1676, and was used as place of worship until 1820, date of the construction of the current synagogue. Ransacked during the Occupation, damaged by a bombardment with the Release, the synagogue has éteacute; restored, with its dependences, and it found all its imposing presence in 1959. Two commemorative stones evoke one, the synagogue of the 15th century, the other, the fire and the rebuilding of the place of prayers into 1683. Haguenau was the seat of a rabbinate as of the 16th century, which exerted its authority on all the prefecture of Haguenau, to Landau. Haguenau has also an oratory located in the old people's home, which is also useful for the House of children of the Storks.
