Studying civil engineering
Working as chemist in the water purification department of the city of New Orleans. Responsibilities include: various types of monitoring of the drinking water supply from the Mississippi River to the tap water and the entire distribution system of the city. Testing includes metals testing by atomic absorption spectrophotometry and organic monitoring by gas chromatography and mass spectrophotometry. Other responsibilities include tours of the water plant to visitors and speaking at schools and community meetings; ordering instrumentation; supervising pro-tem when the supervisor is out; trouble shooting in the process control of the purification system; coordinating EPA certification of the lab; evaluating new EPA regulations and giving input on needs to be done to stay in compliance.
1985-1988 Worked with the Sewerage and Water Board as a Water Service Inspector.
